Abstract

We are living in turbulent and uncertain times, both globally and locally. On the global front, tensions between China and the United States have escalated to alarming levels. Even more concerning is the rise of the far right in most European countries and the U.S., with increasingly racist and exclusionary rhetoric and actions toward migrants from other regions. Israel’s invasion of Gaza, followed by the persecution and murder of civilians, has laid bare the hypocrisy of NATO countries in the face of a genocide that  disregards the most basic human rights. At the same time, the business leaders of this century are banking on a fragmented and unequal society with precarious workers laboring 12 hours or more a day, under the constant threat of their jobs being replaced by new technologies. This landscape reflects the radicalization of the political, social, and cultural crisis of 21st-century financial capitalism.
